SOS GREEN SPACES

Our growing city and towns need parks and trees. Whether you live in Sydney or the Central Coast or Illawarra or are a visitor, our parks, bushland and tree canopy are vital to the health of our communities - providing space for recreation, clean air and time spent together.

Our growing city and towns need parks and trees. Whether you live in Sydney or the Central Coast or Illawarra or are a visitor, our parks, bushland and tree canopy are vital to the health of our communities - providing space for recreation, clean air and time spent together.

However they are under attack with the state government and councils increasingly under the influence of developers, allowing green spaces to be destroyed by urban development and poorly designed infrastructure, including:

  • The West Connex taking over inner west parkland and chainsawing trees
  • Southeast light rail route destroying the magnificent Anzac Parade and Alison Roads' canopy of mature fig trees with another 700 trees on the chopping block
  • New crown land laws that will make it easier to sell off or lease open space
  • Proposed land clearing laws that allow more bulldozing of remnant urban bushland
  • 16 parks to be placed on sale by Bankstown Council
  • Destructive tree lopping by AusGrid
  • Bushland reserves to be cleared in Manly and Hurstville
  • Loss of community land protection for dozens of sites on the Central Coast

These are just a few examples of the blight across our state. Every week at Total Environment Centre we are contacted by communities facing new threats.

We need strong protection of our parks, green spaces, waterways, unique bushland and wildlife. Email Premier Mike Baird and Planning Minister Rob Stokes at www.tec.good.do to stop the destruction and short sighted policies. Join our campaign and make the community’s voice to protect these precious areas stronger and louder.

Do not reward illegal behaviour by relaxing NSW land clearing laws

Last night the ABC exposed a shocking story of illegal land clearing, undue influence of wealthy agribusiness and political interference happening right here in NSW.

The story revealed that thousands of hectares of bushland are being bulldozed by big agribusiness. Worst still, when our environment department tried to investigate, leaked emails reveal NSW Nationals MP Kevin Humphries intervened to stop them.

This is the same Kevin Humphries who has pushed relentlessly to relax our land clearing laws, changes that, under Mike Baird's Premiership, could pass Parliament as soon as today and lead to a return to broad scale land-clearing in NSW.

Please take a minute to contact our Premier and ask him to conduct a full investigation before the passage of the land clearing laws in Parliament.

Thank you for taking urgent action.
